independence mine

we were invited to tag along with our awesome neighbors to palmer/hatcher's pass to check out an old abandoned mine labor day weekend. it was nice to get out and see more of this crazy beautiful area as i've been nesting big time and hardly ever leave the house. there is so much i feel like i just HAVE to do, so i forget to go outside and take advantage of this weather before it gets cold...
we were right next to the talkeetna mountains at independence mine in the matanuska valley and it was so flippin' gorgeous! the leaves were just starting to change colors so everything was really pretty.
brynn just adores the coop family and their 4 children so she was THRILLED beyond belief to spend the day with them. we checked out the little museum, the old mining structures, then went for a hike. brynn was a champ as it was a good 2 miles up and down the valley and she didn't complain once or asked to be carried. definitely doesn't get that from her mother's side...
independence mine was one of the most successful in hauling out gold in central alaska in the mid 1900's. i thought it was really cool to see.

and never mind that we saw this AFTER we finished our hike...sorry! no wonder we didn't see other people.
